Thanks for sharing this great interview and memories, Alan. Willis was a real hero of mine and that team was an early obsession. I was in the Felt Forum watching Game 7 on the big screen and you could feel the thunder from the garden floor above. Incredible, indelible memories. We got an airedale puppy shortly after that championship and named him Clyde.

I was born in 1960 in Atlantic City lived in Margate a shore town soth of Atlantic city. So we got cable and had philadelphia and Some NY channels. So I saw the Knicks and the Sixers. So as a kid I naturally gravitated to the better team. The Sixers were just so bad so a Knicks fan I became. Those 2 Championship teams were awesome and so fun to watch. For the second title they added Earl the Pearl Monroe. Will never forget Willis Limping out on to the court. He so motivated that team his nickname fit like a glove. Thanks for sharing

What a great interview bringing back terrific memories of those NY years! Willis was The Man and his coming out for the finals is forever etched in my mind. Just classic basketball and rivalries with near every team having excellent players. We’d go to The Garden to catch games where it definitely could be electric. Loved Clyde “The Glide” too, near all my friends had a pair of his signature gold suede Pumas. Although he was injured in ‘70, Phil Jackson was another fan favorite. Huge shoulders and a defensive pest. Watching on TV with Marv Albert broadcasting was classic. Too bad his personal behavior taints those good times. Thanks for putting this out! Very cool. And seeing Willis on the train? Only in NY!

Outstanding article. Being fromRU, I am a Celtic fan through and through. But those Knick teams were so good - true teams. Wonderful to hear Willis’s perspective. Great job Alan
