Thanks for the great review of the Philly show, Alan! As a native Philadelphian, I had many amazing experiences seeing Bruce at the original Spectrum including unforgettable 4 hour plus marathons that left the crowd wiped out but ecstatic. I was very fortunate to see the opening show of this tour in Tampa and I too got very emotional about the powerful experience of seeing Bruce again, and I LOVE the refreshed and expanded new E Street Band. The tribute to Clarence with Jake Clemons was a tearjerker and musically perfect to my ear. Agree 100% that hearing songs from the Wild/ Innocent album was off the charts inspiring and enjoyable. "If I were a Rich Man," I'd be flying all over the country and seeing 4 or 5 more of these shows. Glad you got to see it. Looking fw to your new book this summer.

Great write-up as usual. Bruce is one of the acts I have regretted not seeing (Paul being the obvious other). Great set list though I would probably be disappointed to be at a show and not hear Jungleland.

Agreed, missed Jungleland. Maybe he feels Jake can’t do the sax part justice. Jake does a great job but he’s no Clarence. Still an awesome show with an amazing band.

Well said, Alan. I felt very similar when I saw him in Portland, OR in late february. An almost identical setlist and I got to take my two daughters to see him. My oldest (21) saw him on her 10th birthday and was excited to see him again. She said to me, after the show, "I knew it would be great, but I didn't expect to laugh and cry at the same show!" People were in such great spirits! I had to use the bathroom (how Bruce did not have to go for almost 3 hours when he's got 10 years on me is a mystery...) and as I walked through the halls, people were singing along, smiling, hugging, it was beautiful to see.

And my good friend Matt went, who does Everyone Orchestra, and I asked him what he thought and he said, "Fucking Epic. I feel lucky to have been touched by him, I'm not a big fan, only know the hits but loved it and it was a grand slam!"

It sounds like we had a very similar experience. I also teared up when Bruce opened with No Surrender in Austin. I was emotional because I was there with my youngest son. We don't intersect on many things but Bruce's music is something that we both love. He's 16 but an old soul who prefers 70s rock to Bad Bunny. My expectations were low - I hadn't seen the band since The Rising Tour. How good could they be in their 70s? Turns out, pretty damn good. Another similarity is that we were going to spend the night in Austin but we were so amped from the show, we drove home to Houston that same night. The man is one of one.

Great read- I loved Bruce in high school but I feel like I grew out of him. After reading this I could get into him again.
