EXCLUSIVE: Behind the Scenes of The Brothers rehearsal
Photos and videos from The Brothers' first rehearsal for two epic MSG shows this week.
Welcome to a large batch of new subscribers. To celebrate Brothers week, I’ve put paid subs on a 20% sale. More exclusive video and audio interviews coming soon.
Last Thursday, I was privileged to spend the afternoon at a Manhattan soundstage as The Brothers held their first rehearsal in 5 years, in preparation for their shows at Madison Square Garden the next two nights, April 15 and 16. Tickets are still available and if you can possible make one or both shows, I suggest you do so. These shows are going to be fantastic. Livestreams are available via nugs.net. As a reminder, The Brothers are the five surviving guys who were in the Allman Brothers band together for its last 14 years: Jaimoe, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge and Marc Quinones, supplemented by Chuck Leavell, Reese Wynans and drummers Isaac Eady and Joe Russo - who was bursting with enthusiasm and energy and just nailing the songs with a swing and fluidity that complements Jai beautifully.
I am going to focus here on photos and videos, because sometimes a picture really is worth 1,000 words. First up: a photo gallery, all images by Bradley Strickland.

A little taste of “Mountain Jam”
Some gear photos, by me

There’s nothing like standing right behind. Leslie cabinet. Reese Wynans on the Hammond B3.
Oteil has been using in-ear monitors for a decade now. He was blown away by the feeling and sound of the air moving through his stack.
The paperback edition of my fourth book, Brothers and Sisters: the Allman Brothers Band and The Album That Defined The 70s, was recently released by St. Martin’s Press. It was the third consecutive one to debut in the New York Times Non-Fiction Hardcover Bestsellers List, following Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan and One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band. My first book, Big in China: My Unlikely Adventures Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Becoming a Star in Beijing, about my experiences raising a family in Beijing and touring China with a popular original blues band, was optioned for a movie by Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Productions. I am also a guitarist and singer with two bands, Big in China and Friends of the Brothers, the premier celebration of the Allman Brothers Band.
Hi Alan, Thanks a bunch. Can. not. wait. The show 5 years ago blew my socks off. Seeing Reese Wynans, an original ABB member play the Hammond B-3 is such a treat. He does Gregg proud and of course his unique history with the band is an added benefit. The concert in 2020 was so well done and just what we needed as we were launched (kicking and screaming), into the Covid era a day later. See you at the show. Is there going to be a get together before hand? after? See ya, KB
Great content as always! Enjoy the shows Alan!
